Personal Project

Camilla in Crepe is an ongoing graphic novel I’ve worked on in my off time for four years now. It’s gone through a couple of iterations, learning curves, and reimaginings. It’s been a bumpy process, but I find that as I learn new design processes and workflows, I try them out on new spreads. My comic book and my design work inform and grow together.

One of the most perplexing challenges I’ve run into while making this story was switching the program I used to illustrate. Originally, I made the panels in Illustrator, which gave them a clean cartoony look but took a long time, so I switched to Procreate, which resulted in a quicker, much more organic process. My valuable takeaway here was that being willing to change and readjust plans resulted in a much stronger product than rigid perfectionism and sticking to the system I started with could have.
